Factorial is a modern publisher of science fiction. Our goal is to find and rapidly develop stories with global potential. We work in a fast, focused, and fair way, putting the bulk of our resources behind a small number of very high quality titles and sharing the net financial results of publication 50/50 with authors.
The Story So Far
Factorial was founded in 2024 by Chris Larmour, who also founded Europe's leading new orbital space rocket company, Orbex.

Factorial builds on Chris's experience in the space industry and his long-term enthusiasm for sci-fi, a reading habit that spans decades of works from Andre Norton to James Blish, Robert Heinlein to Harry Harrison, Jeff Noon to Iain Banks, Robinson to Stephenson and Gibson, and more recently Stross, Leckie, Morgan, Weir, and Kline.

Factorial is a digital-first publisher that exploits modern technology to remove the frustrations, hurdles and delays many authors face when dealing with the publishing industry. We innovate and streamline the publishing process in several areas with the goal of getting the best stories from outstanding authors into the libraries of readers worldwide as quickly and effectively as possible.

Fast Decisions
Many publishers will make you jump through crazy hoops to submit a manuscript, and keep you waiting months or years for a rejection slip. Factorial operates a publishing pipeline that relies on rapid reading, quick yes/no decisions and a streamlined production partnership with our authors.

Fair Compensation
With author royalties of 8%-12% being common in traditional publishing, authors often struggle to see the financial rewards of years of hard work. Factorial offers a commercially-oriented approach, with an equal partnership in success through a 50/50 split of net revenues and a rapid path to initial publication.

Focused Investment
Traditional publishers use a Venture Capital model, investing resources in around 100 books annually and hoping for 2-3 hits. Factorial looks for the highest quality stories that have the DNA to be global bestsellers, and then we focus all our financial energy behind promoting those titles.
